The Oktoberfest beer style, also known as Märzen, is a traditional German lager that is closely associated with the annual Oktoberfest celebration. It is characterized by its rich amber color and a medium to full body. Oktoberfest beers exhibit a malty flavor profile with notes of toasted bread, caramel, and biscuit, balanced by a moderate hop bitterness. They have a clean fermentation character and a smooth, crisp finish. While lager yeasts normally require cold fermentation to achieve their delicate, clean flavors, this beer is fermented with Saflager W-34/70 — a lager yeast with an unusually high temperature range. It can ferment at room temperature with ease and result in a similar flavor profile.

The brew process involves dissolving malt extract into heated water, steeping bags of milled grain (if applicable), boiling and/or steeping bags of hop pellets, and cooling the wort (unfermented beer) in a sink to be added to your fermentation vessel. The wort is then topped off with chilled water for an even faster cool, and the yeast is added. All this including cleanup takes just 1 hour!
